At Crystal View Lodge, excellence is built through everyday moments of teamwork and care. Staff highlight the people behind their success and the culture that brings it all together.
In a matter of weeks, Niraj C., General Manager at Crystal View Lodge, will face one of the better problems a leader in senior living can have. He’s running out of wall space.
Crystal View Lodge has earned five Q Awards, and soon, they’ll need to find room for a sixth plaque.
For those unfamiliar, the Quality Enhancement (QE) program is one of the most rigorous benchmarks in senior living. It’s a comprehensive review that examines everything from safety and operations to the day-to-day resident experience.
Earning a Q Award means a community hasn’t just met expectations — it has exceeded them in a measurable, documented way.
With five awards, and a sixth on the way, the community has a track record that speaks for itself.
Tucked into a tranquil residential neighborhood in Nepean, Crystal View Lodge feels especially alive in spring, which has a way of showing off here.
“It’s a beautiful space with so much greenery,” says Niraj. “There’s a positive energy that everyone enjoys. Certainly our residents, but I think our employees feel it too.”
It’s the kind of place that draws people in and, it turns out, tends to keep them.
When Niraj and Sarah, the Senior Community Business Manager at Crystal View Lodge, reflect on their most recent Q Award, they don’t dwell on the recognition itself. They point to the people behind it.
“It’s really a team effort,” says Sarah simply. “Our team has a lot of depth and continuity. You’ll see housekeepers with 18 years of tenure, kitchen team members with more than 15. People who know the rhythms of this community because they’ve lived them.”
“Continuity is a big part of our success,” Niraj agrees. “People know the standards. More importantly, they care about them.”
That longevity shapes everything – how the community operates, how teams communicate, how new staff find their footing guided by veteran colleagues who’ve long understood that every role points toward the same goal: making residents feel genuinely at home.
There’s also a quiet discipline to how Crystal View Lodge approaches quality. Preparing for a QE review doesn’t mean scrambling at the last minute. It means being ready every day.
“We don’t panic,” Niraj says. “We live it daily. It’s all about habits. If something is a habit, there’s nothing to panic about.”
Sarah points to another piece of that consistency: rigorous self-auditing.
“We’re always checking ourselves,” she says. “Not just before an inspection; it’s simply part of how we work.”
That mindset is what carries the team beyond meeting expectations. The QE program sets the bar; the culture is what clears it.
“If leadership is positive and confident, the staff feels that, and they buy in quickly,” Sarah says.
When their inspector arrived for the most recent review, that confidence was on full display.
“We were happy to see her,” Niraj says with a smile. “We were excited to show off our work.”
When the award was announced, the reaction was immediate, with smiles, cheers and genuine moments of celebration.
And then, just as quickly, it was back to work.
That may be the clearest sign of what makes Crystal View Lodge special. The awards matter. The recognition matters. But neither one changes how the team approaches the next morning.
At Crystal View Lodge, it’s simply the way they work, long before anyone arrives to measure it.
